Family Promise of Forsyth County is a ministry that serves families in need by housing them in local churches while helping them get back on their feet. Four weeks of each year, Midway houses these families…feeding them, sharing fellowship and fun, and extending the love of God. We set up our Sunday School rooms with furniture and beds to make the surroundings as comfortable and inviting as we can. Volunteers provide meals and fellowship while we host our guests and show them the love of Christ. Kids have a chance to play in the gym while volunteers supervise and parents can get a little quiet time if they like.
This is a great opportunity for families to serve together! Perhaps your small group or class could agree to host a dinner or provide two overnight hosts.
Several families have graduated from the program and have entered transitional housing, on their way to securing their own home. Each has worked hard to achieve their weekly goals, save money, and find an affordable place to live to provide long-term stability for their children. And Midway UMC had a role in making that happen!
Are you interested in volunteering with Family Promise? To serve in a role that has personal contact with the families served, volunteers must have attended an orientation session in the past 12 months. Orientations are held monthly on the fourth Thursday at 7:00 at Family Promise of Forsyth – Day Center (near Hobby Lobby in Cumming).
Next host week: February 3-10, 2019.
