WHAT IS “THE JOURNEY?”
Say goodbye to the standard stewardship campaign, where we listen to Sunday sermons about financial giving for weeks and turn in a pledge card at the end.
Instead, let’s go on a journey together.
“The Journey” is a six-year cycle in which we will focus each year on a different aspect of our membership vow: prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Our Journey started mid-January 2019, as we began with a six-week church-wide study and sermon series that gave an overview of all these elements of the vow, using the book “Treasures of the Transformed Life,” by Dr. John Ed Mathison.
Following along each week with Pastor Jennie’s message, we learned more about the significance of each aspect of our vow. On February 24, we concluded the 2019 series with a Celebration Sunday featuring one combined service and a churchwide luncheon. Both were well-attended and our church family enjoyed a day filled with energy, joy, and the Holy Spirit!
Coming in January 2020: a sermon series and churchwide study focused on prayer. We’ll dive deeper and explore together this facet of what it means to be a United Methodist.
This six-year Journey enables us to move toward a more fulfilling and joyful relationship with God, and greater unity as a church family. You’re invited to be a part!
