WOMEN’S RETREAT 2020
Unafraid: Overcoming Fear & Anxiety
Worship, learn, and just be . . . as we learn to defeat fear with faith
Saturday, February 1, 2020 | 8:30 am to 2:30 pm
Everyone faces fear and anxiety. Some battle it occasionally; some, on a daily basis. For some, it’s merely an annoyance; for others, it’s crippling. Regardless of its frequency or magnitude, it can not only keep us from connecting with others, but separate us from God. No matter your age, your status, your style, or whether you think you have it all together or not, please join us for this one-day retreat at Midway UMC, led by Rev. Betsy Haas (Kitty Hawk UMC) and Rev. Kathie Stasko (Cumming First UMC). These experienced facilitators will teach us Godly practices to overcome the fear and anxiety we all face. Continental breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided.
Cost: $40 (by Dec. 15), $50 (Dec. 16 – Jan. 12). Registration deadline: Jan. 12, 2020
Women’s and men’s ministries are the cornerstone of any church. They’re a way to connect, study, serve, and grow with your brothers and sisters in Christ – no matter your age, stage in life, or spiritual background.
Midway United Methodist Church Women’s Ministry is for women of all ages. The ministry is built on four pillars: Study, Service, Support and Social. Our plan is to address each pillar, providing opportunities for spiritual growth and strong relationships with a foundation in Christ. We’ve enjoyed “Girls Night Out” activities, movie nights, lunch-and-learns, mission opportunities, themed bible studies and more.
Our Women’s Ministry has completed Bible studies based on the movies “War Room”and “The Shack,” studies on prayer beads, bible journaling, writing your spiritual autobiography, and more.
We have hosted monthly church-wide collections of canned goods for Meals By Grace, snack foods for Bags of Love, backpacks stuffed with school supplies, food items for rescued dogs/cats. Our ministry participated in Midway’s meal-packing events for Haiti, made care packages for our college students to celebrate completion of finals, helped to complete elaborate landscaping clean-up on the property of an elderly widow…we love to serve! We have also served at Midway’s Children’s Consignment Sales, annual 5K race benefiting missions, Family Promise (homeless families housed at Midway four times a year), BBQ Sales, Trunk or Treat, and Meals By Grace.
Our ministry reaches out to our homebound, mission team and new members.
We’ve enjoyed activities such as a jewelry-making lunch-and-learn and attended a cupcake decorating class, made memories at a “Casting Crowns” concert in Woodstock, hosted many ladies-only movie nights with free refreshments. Traditionally, we have a large presence at the Hanging of the Greens (the entire church family helping to decorate the church for Christmas) and a Christmas brunch/cookie exchange. Popular repeat events include an inspiring women’s monthly worship gathering known as “The Grove” at Passion City Church in Atlanta, and sharing fellowship at our monthly breakfast at Midway Meal House.
We look forward to all that God has in store for this new ministry!
