Midway United Methodist Church Women’s Ministry is for women of all ages. The ministry is built on four pillars: Study, Service, Support and Social. Our plan is to address each pillar, providing opportunities for spiritual growth and strong relationships with a foundation in Christ. We’ve enjoyed “Girls Night Out” activities, movie nights, lunch-and-learns, mission opportunities, themed bible studies and more.
NEXT SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: Sprucing up the grounds of the Duluth campus of Wellspring Living, which serves girls who have been victims of human trafficking. Meet at Midway UMC Sat. 6/24 at 8:30. We’ll carpool or take the church bus and work until 1:00. Projects will include: spreading pine straw, trimming and landscape clean-up on the grounds, 2) trimming out the stairs with wood molding, 3) laying sod over the sand on the volleyball court. Our Women’s Ministry completed a five-week Bible study based on the movie “War Room,” as well as a popular 5-week bible study involving prayer beads, entitled “A Bead & a Prayer.” Most recently, we completed a 5-week study on the critically acclaimed book and movie, “The Shack.”
We have collected donations for Angels Among Us, participated in Midway UMC’s Global Impact Celebration by providing food for visiting mission partners as well as participating in a large meal-packing event, made care packages for our college students to celebrate completion of finals, helped to complete elaborate landscaping clean-up on the property of an elderly widow…we love to serve! We have also served at Midway’s Children’s Consignment Sales, 5K race benefiting missions, Family Promise (homeless families housed at Midway several times a year), BBQ Sales, Trunk or Treat, and Meals By Grace.
Our ministry reaches out to our homebound, mission team and new members. Highlights include a”Surviving College” breakfast with guest speaker for families with children soon to begin in college, followed by beautifully-crafted prayer beads which will be gifted to first-time guests at worship.
We enjoyed a jewelry-making lunch-and-learn and attended a cupcake decorating class. Attendance was high at our in-house 2016 summer movie series: “God’s Not Dead,” “God’s Not Dead 2,” and “Miracles from Heaven.” A group enjoyed attending the “Casting Crowns” concert in Woodstock. Traditionally, we have a large presence at the Hanging of the Greens (helping to decorate the church for Christmas) and a Christmas brunch/cookie exchange. Popular repeat events include dining together and carpooling to an inspiring women’s worship gathering known as “The Grove” at Passion City Church in Atlanta, and sharing fellowship at our monthly breakfast at Midway Meal House.
Still to come in 2017: a mother/daughter tea, summer bible study “Women of the New Testament,” fall movie/study, women’s retreat, and more! We look forward to all that God has in store for this new ministry!
